Our History

BCNeMotorsport was founded in 2007 by 13 students from ETSEIB (Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Industrial de Barcelona) as ETSEIB Motorsport. The team’s first car, the CAT01, marked the start of our journey in Formula Student. Over the years, we have expanded our knowledge, pushing the limits of engineering, and achieved success at both national and international levels.

In 2012, we became the first Spanish team to design and build an electric car, the CAT05e, leading the way in electric mobility within the Formula Student competition. By 2018, we took another leap forward with the creation of Driverless UPC, the first Spanish team to develop an autonomous electric Formula Student car.

In 2020, anticipating rule changes that would require a single car to compete in both manual and autonomous categories, we merged ETSEIB Motorsport and Driverless UPC into BCN eMotorsport. This strategic fusion resulted in the creation of the CAT14x and CAT15x, which competed successfully in both categories. The design of our latest car, the CAT16x, achieved excellent results at Formula Student Spain, and the CAT17x is now in development, continuing our tradition of innovation and excellence.
